The Sun Doesn't Have to Be Out

Sunset, Sea of Cortez

The sun doesn’t have to be out to be extraordinary. 5:30am as we left the mother ship in our zodiacs to visit what we hoped would be golden light on the bird-nesting cliffs. I squirmed around for one last look at the clouds just as the sun was peeking through the bottom layer.

I gasped when I saw the scene, held my breath, pointed the lens at the light, framed what I hoped would be the ship off to the side, and shot. It worked. Then I hoped there would be light ahead. Sometimes, you just have to go for it and hope for the best.
