Morning Sun

Morning Sun, Sea of Cortez
Roll call for the morning zodiac excursion was at 5am for this photographic opportunity on our tour of the Sea of Cortez. “I do this every day,” I said to myself. “Why am I doing it on a vacation?” Ugh. But, I knew it would be worth it if the sun came out.
As we boarded the inflatable rafts, known as zodiacs, storm clouds filled the sky. Briefly, the clouds separated and the momentary angle of the sun turned the cliffs from grey-brown to golden glory. By the time our boat came in an hour later, we had only grey skies and clouds again. It’s all in the luck of the draw, but when it comes, it is glorious. All I had to do was frame and shoot, watching for the angled lines and making sure I captured the reflections so the shot wouldn’t be flat. Of course, the camera also had to be set for a landscape shot, and I had to hold it steady in a rocking zodiac. Details. Definitely, it was worth the early morning rise.
